Dr. Karin Millett is an experienced international development expert with broad geographic experience (Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, East/Southeastern Europe, Ukraine, Moldova and Central Asia), and in-depth experience in private sector development, foreign direct investment, trade and competitiveness. For the past six years she has been engaged in projects to combat corruption in public procurement and building capacity of civil society organizations to responsibly monitor public procurement.
She retired as a Director of the World Bank in 2010. Since leaving the World Bank, Ms. Millett’s assignments have included serving as Project Leader for the Regional Partnership to Promote Trade and Investment in Sub-Saharan Africa, funded by the Government of Finland and implemented by the Earth Institute at Columbia University; consultant to the Columbia Sustainable Investment Center on project in Haiti; World Bank consultant on systematic country diagnostics on Bosnia/Herzegovina and Kosovo. From 2016 – 2019, she served as Advisor with the Partnership for Transparency (PTF) on a project to increase transparency and reduce corruption through enhancing the capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ukraine to monitor e-procurement. From 2020 to 2022, Ms. Millett was Project Director for “Increasing Transparency in Public Procurement in Moldova” and continues to serve as a Senior Advisor with that project.
Ms. Millett holds a post-graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of London, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Denver. Her undergraduate work was completed in Ireland and Germany.
Ms. Millett is a native of Dublin (Ireland), and holds dual Irish and US citizenship.
