Enhancing Citizen-Driven Delivery and Accountability in IDA Operations
The largest concessional lending program for the world’s poorest countries now needs to boost the roles of and funding for civil society in helping governments deliver results with accountability in the projects it funds according to Partnership for Transparency.
Many CSOs from around the world have called for the International Development Association (IDA) to establish a civil society organization (CSO) window for funding independent monitoring by local CSOs during the IDA-funded project life cycle to enhance accountability and results. While a CSO window was not established under IDA20 (the largest ever replenishment – $93 billion for July 2022 to June 2025), the IDA team has engaged in continuing discussions and this study was prepared to inform continued advocacy on this matter by PTF and other likeminded CSOs.
